The Scottish Football League Division One was played for the 38th time in 1930/31 . It was also the 41st edition of the highest soccer division within the Scottish Football League in which the Scottish champions were determined. It began on August 9, 1930 and ended on April 29, 1931. In the 1930/31 season, 20 clubs competed against each other in a total of 38 game days. Each team played once at home and away against every other team. The 2-point rule applied . In the event of a tie, the goal quotient counted .
The championship won for the 19th time in their club history, the Glasgow Rangers . Hibernian Edinburgh and FC East Fife were relegated to Division Two at the end of the season . The top scorer was Barney Battles from Heart of Midlothian with 44 goals .
