The Scottish Football League Division One was played for the 30th time in 1922/23 . It was also the 33rd edition of the top soccer division within the Scottish Football League in which the Scottish champions were determined. It began on August 15, 1922 and ended on April 28, 1923. In the 1922/23 season, 20 clubs competed against each other in a total of 38 game days. Each team played once at home and away against every other team. The 2-point rule applied . In the event of a tie, the goal quotient counted .
The Glasgow Rangers won the Scottish Championship for the twelfth time in the club's history. The Albion Rovers and Alloa Athletic were relegated to Division Two at the end of the season . The top scorer with 30 goals was Jock White of Heart of Midlothian .
