Paul Michael Lyons McStay , MBE (born October 22, 1964 in Hamilton ) is a former Scottish football player.

Paul McStay began his professional career at Aberdeen FC . In 1981 he moved to Celtic Glasgow , where he played until 1997. With Celtic, McStay became Scottish champions in 1982, 1986 and 1988. He also won the Scottish Cup three times in 1985, 1988 and 1989. McStay scored 72 goals in a total of 672 games for Celtic.

At the international level, his career was not quite as successful. However, he was able to celebrate his first success in 1982 with the Scottish youth national team, which became European champions. McStay took part in the World Cup finals with Scotland in 1986 and 1990. If he was hardly used at the tournament in Mexico , he was able to play all games in Italy four years later . At both World Championships, it was already over for him in the preliminary round. At the European Championships in Sweden in 1992 , he was also used in all games, but here, too, was the final destination for the Scots in the preliminary round. McStay made 72 international appearances and scored nine goals.
