Gordon David Strachan OBE (born February 9, 1957 in Edinburgh ) is a Scottish football coach and former football player (midfielder).

life and career

Strachan is one of the most successful Scottish players. His most successful period as a player was from the late 1970s to the mid-1980s at Aberdeen FC under coach Alex Ferguson . He won the championship twice (1980 and 1984), the cup three times (1982, 1983 and 1984), the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1983 and the European Supercup in 1984 . He then moved to England to Manchester United , with whom he won the 1985 cup. In 1989 he moved to Leeds United , where he and his compatriot Gary McAllister became English champions in 1992. At the end of his career, Strachan played one more season for Coventry City .

He was also successful as a national player, so he took part in the World Cup finals in 1982 and 1986 and played six games (one goal). In total, he made 50 caps for Scotland and scored five goals.

After his career as a player he became a coach. First he coached Coventry City, but with whom he was relegated from the Premier League . His time at Southampton FC was also less successful . After another stint at Celtic FC , he coached the Middlesbrough FC team from 2009 to 2010 . From January 15, 2013 to October 12, 2017 he was the coach of the Scottish national team.
