Robert Young "Bobby" Collins (born February 16, 1931 in Govanhill , Scotland , † January 13, 2014 in Leeds ) was a Scottish football player and coach.

life and career

With a height of only 160 cm, Collins was considered a tough and lively midfielder. In 1948 he came to Celtic Glasgow and played here for ten years. With the "Bhoys" he won several national titles during this time: in 1951 the Scottish Cup and the Scottish League Cup , in 1954 the double of championship and cup and in 1957 again the Scottish League Cup. In 1958 he moved to England for Everton FC . He joined Leeds United four years later . At Leeds he was captain and in 1965 named the best player in the league. He stayed with Leeds until a serious knee injury in the first round encounter against AC Torino at the Messestädte-Pokal 1965/66 . In 1966 he signed a contract with Bury FC . Two years later he returned to his native Scotland and played for Greenock Morton for another year . Between 1957 and 1959 he made 31 appearances in the Scottish national football team (in which he scored 10 goals) and was in the squad for the 1958 World Cup in Sweden and scored the 500th World Cup in the game against Paraguay with a 2: 3 final result -Goal. He later became a coach at Huddersfield Town , Hull City and Barnsley FC . In the 1970s and then again in the 1990s, Collins coached youth teams at Leeds United.
