Frank McLintock , MBE (born December 28, 1939 in Glasgow ) is a former Scottish football player .
life and career
McLintock began his career at Leicester City . The Scot made his debut for Leicester in 1959. In October 1964, after losing two cup finals and one losing league cup final with Leicester City, he was signed by Arsenal . The midfielder was there playmaker and captain of the team. After another two defeats in league cup finals and a possible move, he finally won his first title in 1970. McLintock won the UEFA Cup with the Gunners . The English championship and the English cup followed a year later. That year (1971) he was also named Footballer of the Year in England . In 1973 he was sold to the Queens Park Rangers . Four years later he ended his active career. In total, he played over 700 competitive games in his career. Internationally, he was used nine times for the Scottish national football team . In 1972, a year before joining the Queens Park Rangers, he was awarded a Medal for Service to the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II . After his playing career, he was unsuccessful at Leicester City, Brentford FC and Millwall FC as a coach. McLintock made a career as a speaker and analyst for the BBC and Sky Sports after his first career as a footballer .
