Barry Ferguson , MBE (born February 2, 1978 in Glasgow ) is a former Scottish football player and current coach. He is currently under contract with the Scottish third division club FC Clyde .
Since June 17, 2006 he has been a Member of the Order of the British Empire.
youth
Ferguson has been a Rangers fan since early childhood. His older brother Derek was part of the team in the 80s.
Glasgow Rangers
Ferguson began his professional career with the Rangers in 1996 and quickly became a pillar of the team (he became captain in 2000). With him, the Rangers won the Scottish Championship in 1997, 1999, 2000 and 2003 and the Scottish Cup in 1999, 2000, 2002 and 2003. Ferguson himself was named Scotland's Footballer of the Year in 2001 and 2003 .
Blackburn Rovers
In the summer of 2003, he moved to Blackburn Rovers in the English Premier League for 9.25 million euros .
Return to the Rangers
However, due to a serious injury, Ferguson was unable to exhaust his potential and returned to the Rangers in January 2005 (transfer fee: 7.25 million euros). The team immediately became champions and league cup winners with him.
Birmingham City
In July 2009 Ferguson moved again to the English Premier League . Ferguson signed a contract with newly promoted Birmingham City until the end of the 2011/2012 season. His fee was around 1.2 million euros.
Blackpool FC
In the summer of 2011 Ferguson moved to the Premier League relegated Blackpool . He signed a two-year contract there. During this time Ferguson was loaned to Fleetwood Town for 4 months. In January 2014, he took over the post of coach at Blackpool FC after Paul Ince had been fired.
National team
After the 3-0 loss to the Netherlands on March 28, 2009, Ferguson and his teammate Allan McGregor were involved in a drinking bout at the hotel. Because of this escapade, both players were relegated to the stands for the next game against Iceland. There they continued to attract negative attention through obscene gestures before the game. On April 3, the Scottish Football Association announced that McGregor and Ferguson would no longer appear for the Bravehearts. He was also suspended by the Glasgow Rangers for two weeks without pay and was no longer captain of the team for the rest of the season.
Trainer
Clyde FC
Ferguson has been the coach of the Scottish third division club FC Clyde since June 13, 2014. He was responsible for this as a player-coach until April 2015.
