Emilio Arturo Izaguirre Giron (born May 10, 1986 in Tegucigalpa ) is a football player from Honduras .
Career
His debut in the Honduran league made Izaguirre at the age of 17 for Club Deportivo Motagua , where he quickly became a regular player and won the Apertura tournament with his team in the 2006/07 season and the Central American Copa Interclubes UNCAF in 2007 . Despite being sidelined for a few months that same year due to a collarbone injury, he was voted the best Honduran footballer by the press.
In 2010, Izaguirre agreed with Celtic Glasgow from the Scottish Premier League on a four-season contract. A season later he was named the best player in the Scottish League.
After seven years in Glasgow, he moved to Al-Fayha in Saudi Arabia in 2017 . He returned to Celtic just a year later.
In the Honduran national team, he achieved his first successes with the U-20 selection , which qualified with him for the 2005 World Cup in the Netherlands. He later played in the U-23, with which he qualified for the 2008 Olympic football tournament in Beijing . At that time Izaguirre was already in the squad of the senior team , for which he made his debut on February 9, 2007 in the game against Costa Rica. In the same year he took part with the senior national team in the CONCACAF Gold Cup 2007, in which he was one of the strongest players in his eleven. He qualified with Honduras for the 2010 Soccer World Cup in South Africa. At the finals, in which Honduras were eliminated in the preliminary round, he played the games against Chile and Spain. On May 8, 2014, he was appointed to the squad for the 2014 World Cup by coach Luis Fernando Suárez . He was used in two games, but retired with his team after the group stage. In qualifying for the 2018 World Cup , he made 14 appearances, but ultimately failed with his team in the intercontinental playoffs to Australia . On November 16, 2018, he played his 100th international match in the friendly against Panama . At the CONCACAF Gold Cup 2019 he was used in the three group matches after which Honduras was eliminated.
