Andrew "Andy" Lewis Goram (born April 13, 1964 in Bury , England ) is a former Scottish professional footballer ( goalkeeper ).
Goram began his career in the youth of Oldham Athletic before moving to Scotland for Hibernian Edinburgh in 1987 , where his performances attracted the attention of the Glasgow Rangers , who signed him in 1991 for a transfer fee of one million pounds . He grew into a Rangers goalkeeper legend who was voted the best Rangers goalkeeper of all time by fans. He won nine league titles in a row (1991-1998) and was named Scotland's Footballer of the Year in 1993 . From 1991 to 1998 he made 260 league games for the Rangers. He ended his career with the small clubs Queen of the South and Elgin City .
He also completed 48 international matches as a Scottish national goalkeeper and took part in the European Championships in 1992 and 1996 .
He is controversial because of his sympathy for loyal Northern Irish terrorists. After the loyalist Billy Wright was murdered in prison in 1997, he wore a mourning bracelet at the next Rangers game - allegedly because of a deceased relative. His ex-wife Tracey posted a photo of him holding the flag of the Northern Irish terrorist organization Ulster Volunteer Force in a pub . The photo was taken during his time as a regular goalkeeper for the Rangers, but was only published later.
Others
Goram was celebrated by Glasgow Rangers fans with the choir “There's only one Andy Goram”. After his schizophrenia became known, the fans sang "There's only two (two) Andy Gorams" and voted him the greatest Rangers goalkeeper of all time.
