John James "Jack" Ross (born June 5, 1976 in Falkirk ) is a former Scottish soccer player and currently soccer coach . In his career as a player, Ross was under contract in Scotland and England. After the end of his playing career, Ross works as a coach. He is currently the head coach of Hibernian Edinburgh in the Scottish Premiership .

Career

As a player

Jack Ross played in his youth at Dundee FC and Forfar Athletic and the Camelon Juniors. With Camelon he lost the final in the Scottish Junior Cup in 1996 .

In 1999 Ross moved to the Scottish third division club FC Clyde . In his first season he rose with the club as a champion in the second division. Under the coach Ian Spittal , he later became team captain and completed a total of 159 league games by 2004. In the last season he spent in Clyde ended with the best placement in the second division when the team behind Inverness Caledonian Thistle missed promotion to the Scottish Premier League .

For the 2004/05 season Ross moved to Hartlepool United in England. He left the third division after a year and moved back to Scotland.

With the first division club FC Falkirk he found a new club straight away. With this he held the class for the next three years. In 2008 he moved to FC St. Mirren in the Scottish Premier League . Later he was with Hamilton Academical , Dunfermline Athletic and Dumbarton FC under contract. In the latter, he ended his career as a player in 2014.

As a trainer

In December 2015 Ross took over the coaching position of the Scottish second division team Alloa Athletic . In October 2016 he moved to FC St. Mirren . With the second division team, he rose to the first division in the 2017/18 season . After promotion, he moved to English third division AFC Sunderland in the summer of 2018 . He missed promotion to the second division after losing in the play-off final of the 2018/19 season at Wembley Stadium against Charlton Athletic . In October 2019, the contract in Sunderland was terminated.

In November 2019, Ross became the new coach at the Scottish first division club Hibernian Edinburgh , who had previously fired Paul Heckingbottom .
