Drey Jermaine Wright (born April 30, 1995 in Greenwich , London ) is an English football player who has been under contract with the Scottish first division club Hibernian Edinburgh since 2020 .

Career

Drey Wright was born in 1995 to the English soccer player Jermaine Wright in Greenwich , London . His father was under contract with the Wolverhampton Wanderers during this time . After his father's retirement in 2011, Drey played together with his three years younger brother Diaz Wright in the youth team of Colchester United . Colchester is 80 km northeast of his native London. For the club he made his professional debut in August 2012 in the League Cup against Yeovil Town when he was in the starting line-up of coach John Ward . For the English third division team, he completed 21 league games in his first season and scored three goals. Until the end of the 2015/16 season, which led to relegation to the fourth English division, Wright remained mostly a supplementary player in the team. For the next two years in the fourth division, Wright was an important player in the ranks of Colchester as he played almost all competitive games.

After six years with Colchester United's first team, Wright signed a two-year deal with Scottish first division club St. Johnstone in May 2018 . He made his debut on July 16 in the Scottish League Cup against FC East Fife . A month later he scored his first goal for the "Saints" in the same competition against Queen of the South . His first season in Scotland ended prematurely in November 2018 when Wright sustained a knee injury in the Scottish Premiership league game against FC Kilmarnock , which resulted in a lengthy downtime. In August 2019, he returned to the field after nine months. He did not renew his contract in Perth , which expired at the end of the 2019/20 season , whereupon he left the club in June 2020 after 36 appearances in the highest Scottish league.

On July 10, 2020, Wright signed a two-year deal with league rivals Hibernian Edinburgh .
