Andrew "Andy" Roxburgh (born May 5, 1943 in Glasgow ) is a former Scottish football player and coach. He is currently Technical Director of UEFA .
Roxburgh was head of the Scottish national team . In this role, he looked after the team at the 1990 World Cup and the 1992 European Championship .
As a player, Roxburgh played for FC Falkirk , Partick Thistle , Clydebank and FC Queen's Park . After the resignation of Alex Ferguson as Scottish national coach, after the poor performance of Scotland at the Soccer World Cup in Mexico in 1986 , he was his successor and head of the Scottish association teams of all ages. He was never a club coach before, so the commitment as national coach was all the more surprising. Prior to that, he was the principal and physical education teacher of a Scottish school, but also coached the Scottish junior and U-21 teams from time to time. With the professional team he took part in the World Cup in 1990 and in the European Championship in 1992, but failed in the preliminary round in 3rd place. He was succeeded in 1993 by Craig Brown . Andy Roxburgh has been UEFA Technical Director since 1994, as well as a member of the FIFA Technical and Development Committee .
