Alexander "Alex" Young (born February 3, 1937 in Loanhead , Midlothian , † February 27, 2017 in Edinburgh ) was a Scottish football player .

life and career

Young began his career at Newtongrange Star and moved to Heart of Midlothian . He made his Hearts debut at the age of 18. In 1958 and 1960 he won the Scottish Championship. He then went to Everton FC . There he won the English championship in 1963 and the English Cup in 1966. During his time in England he was nicknamed "The Golden Vision". Two years later he moved to FC Glentoran in Northern Ireland . After a year on the Irish island, he played briefly at Stockport County and ended his career after a serious knee injury .

After his career, he worked in the family business before retiring. In August 2001, a farewell game in his honor was played at Goodison Park , which was attended by 20,000 spectators.
