The Scottish League Cup was played for the 13th time in 1958/59 . The Scottish Football League Cup, which was played among the participants of the Scottish Football League , began on August 9, 1958 and ended with the final on October 25, 1958 in Hampden Park in Glasgow . As defending champion, Celtic Glasgow started the competition that had prevailed against the Glasgow Rangers at the Old Firm in the previous year's final . In this year's final hit Heart of Midlothian to Partick Thistle . The Hearts reached the league cup final for the second time1955 . The Jags from Glasgow reached the final for the third time after 1954 and 1957 . The Hearts won the title for the second time with a 5-1 final win. For the Jags it was already the third defeat in the final. In the Scottish Championship , the Hearts were the reigning champions, second behind the Rangers . Partick Thistle came in ninth.
