The Scottish League Cup was played for the 72nd time in 2017/18 . The Scottish Football League Cup, which was played among the participants of the Premiership , Championship , League One and League Two and the two champions of the Highland and Lowland Football League , began on July 15, 2017 and ended with the final on November 26 2017 in Hampden Park, Glasgow. The competition is officially held as the Betfred Scottish League Cup . The league cup began with 8 groups of five teams each. The eight group winners and the four second best teams in each group reached the second round. The teams that took part in the European Cup only started in the 2nd round. If no winner was found in a duel after 90 minutes, the game was decided on penalties . The winner got two points the loser one. As the defending champion, Celtic Glasgow started the competition that had won against FC Aberdeen in the previous year's final . Defending champions Celtic Glasgow and FC Motherwell met in this year's final . Celtic reached the final in the League Cup for the 32nd time since 1957 , of which 16 were won. For Well it was the fourth final in the League Cup after 1951 , 1955 and 2005 . Celtic won the final 2-0 with goals from James Forrest and Moussa Dembélé . It was the 17th title in the League Cup since their first win in 1957 . In the same season, Celtic won the Scottish Championship and the Cup, making them the second national triple in a row and the fifth overall.
