Carl Gerard McHugh (born February 5, 1993 in Lettermacaward ) is an Irish football player who is under contract with Amar Tomar Kolkata in the Indian Super League .

Career

Carl McHugh was born in 1993 in the Irish Lettermac Award in County Donegal . At the age of 16 he moved to the youth academy of the English club Reading FC . From there he was later loaned back to Ireland to Dundalk FC . For the club, he completed 12 games in the League of Ireland . After returning to Reading , McHugh moved to English fourth division club Bradford City in August 2012 . In the very first season McHugh reached the final of the English League Cup with the club as the first fourth division team since 1962 . In the final, Bradford City lost 5-0 with McHugh in the starting line-up against first division club Swansea City . In the same season, after a playoff win against Northampton Town, they were promoted to Football League One . In June 2014 McHugh moved to Plymouth Argyle and two seasons later to FC Motherwell in Scotland. In June 2017 he was named team captain. With Motherwell he reached the final of the Scottish League Cup in the 2017/18 season , which was lost to Celtic Glasgow . On June 9, 2019, he then moved on to the Indian first division club Amar Tomar Kolkata , where he signed a two-year contract.

National team

Carl McHugh played for the Irish U-17 and U-19 national teams before playing twice in the U-21s against the Netherlands and Portugal in February 2013 .
