Baruch Berliner (born 1942 in Tel Aviv ) is an Israeli composer, economist and lyric poet, author of poems, books and articles.

Life

Berliner was born in Tel Aviv. He received his doctorate in mathematics from the University of Zurich , where he also worked as an actuary for a Swiss insurance company. In 1990 he returned to Israel with his family. From 1990 until his retirement in 2007, he was a senior researcher in the Faculty of Management Science at Tel Aviv University and chaired the Erhard Institute for Insurance.

During his work and research he has been invited to give lectures at universities and actuarial conferences.

Berliner has published two books and around 100 articles on actuaries, finance and economics.

Berliner also writes poems in Hebrew, German and English. In addition to the literary works, he composed The Creation of the World and  Abraham , poetic symphonies for orchestra, narrator and a male choir as well as South American dances to the rhythm of the waltz.

In 2016, a memorial concert was held in Kiev for the Babyn Yar massacre 75 years earlier. At this concert, conducted by Alex Ansky, the Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine performed Berliner's works. The plays  Abraham and Cain and Abel were performed there. Various of his works have also been performed at the Huberman Festival in Poland, Bulgaria, Moldova and Russia.

In 2017, a volume of poetry was also published in German.
