Anga Dedryck Boyata (born November 28, 1990 in Uccle ) is a Belgian football player . He is under contract with Hertha BSC .

background

Bienvenu Mandungu Boyata, Dedryck's father, comes from the DR Congo . He played football for Royale Union Saint-Gilloise and Stade Löwen in the 1990s . Boyata's mother is Belgian.

Dedryck grew up in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean / Sint-Jans-Molenbeek on the outskirts of Brussels .

Boyata had played in the youth team at FC Brussels until 2007 before moving to the Manchester City youth academy . He was part of the squad that won the 2008 FA Youth Cup against Chelsea . From January 2010 he was part of the professional team. At the end of the 2009/10 season he was named Young Player of the Year within the team. In late August 2011, Boyata was loaned to Bolton Wanderers for the 2011/12 season. In the 2012/13 season he was awarded to FC Twente and returned to Manchester in January 2013.

In June 2015 Boyata signed a four-year contract with Celtic Glasgow . By the summer of 2019 he had played 90 league games and was Scottish champions four times in a row with Celtic.

For the 2019/20 season Boyata moved to Hertha BSC in Germany on a free transfer . At the beginning of the season, he fell out with thigh problems and missed the first three games. Since the 4th matchday he has been a regular player in central defense alongside Niklas Stark .

National team

He played a total of twelve games in the Belgian U-19 national team, scoring two goals. He made his debut on March 3, 2010 in a 1-0 win over Malta for the Belgian U-21 national team.

About five months later he was nominated for the friendly against Finland , but not used. He had to wait two more months before being nominated for the European Championship qualifiers against Kazakhstan and Austria in October . He played his first international match against Austria in which he played for 45 minutes.

At the 2014 World Cup , he was not part of the Belgian national team. He was unable to take part in the 2016 European Championships because of thigh problems. It was not until the 2018 World Cup that it was used in all three preliminary round games for the full duration, but not taken into account in the other games.
