Jordan Torunarigha (born August 7, 1997 in Chemnitz ) is a German football player who is used in the position of defender . He has been under contract in the professional squad of Bundesliga club Hertha BSC since the 2016/17 season .

Club career

Junior area

In his youth, Jordan Torunarigha first played for Chemnitzer FC in his hometown before moving to the Hertha BSC youth academy in 2006 .

He achieved his greatest success there in 2015 when he won the DFB Junior Club Cup . In the amateur stadium, Torunarigha beat Maximilian Mittelstädt and Yanni Regäsel Energie Cottbus 1-0.

A year later the final was reached there again. In the final, however, Hertha had to admit defeat 2: 4 to Hannover 96 .

Men's area

Torunarigha had previously made his men's debut in the Hertha BSC Regionalliga team in July 2015 when coach Ante Čović started him in the 1-0 away win at FSV 63 Luckenwalde .

On the 15th matchday of the 2016/17 Bundesliga season , Torunarigha was nominated for the first time for the professional squad by coach Pál Dárdai , but was not used in the game at RB Leipzig . Shortly thereafter, Torunarigha signed a licensed player contract with Hertha BSC that runs until 2020.

On the 19th matchday in a 1-0 win against FC Ingolstadt 04 he made his Bundesliga debut when he came on for Vedad Ibišević in the 90th minute and played there in the unfamiliar position of the striker . Torunarigha scored his first Bundesliga goal on May 13, 2017 in the away game against SV Darmstadt 98 , when Hertha scored 0-2 with a header in the 28th minute.

Jordan Torunarigha has been part of the German U-20 team since the 2016/17 season .

Private

Torunarigha's father is former second division professional, coach and Nigerian international Ojokojo Torunarigha . His older brother Junior is also a soccer player.

As a GoVolunteer ambassador for diversity and tolerance, Torunarigha is committed to peaceful and tolerant coexistence. He himself was the victim of racist insults in a U23 game. He was also the victim of racist remarks at the cup match at FC Schalke 04 (final score 3: 2 a.s. for Schalke) on February 4, 2020.
