Ondrej Duda (born December 5, 1994 in Snina , Prešovský kraj ) is a Slovak football player . The midfielder is under contract with Hertha BSC and is a Slovak national player .

Slovakia and Poland

Duda came through the U19 of the Slovak club FC VSS Košice in the 1st men's team and made his debut on July 22, 2012 in the Fortuna League , the top Slovak division. He was substituted on in the 1-0 home win of his team in the 89th minute of play against the Slovak record champions ŠK Slovan Bratislava . In the 2012/13 season Duda came on 13 more missions, in the following season even on 19 missions and scored five goals. On February 28, 2014, the Slovak moved to the Polish first division club Legia Warsaw for a rumored transfer fee of 300,000 euros . On the 25th day of the Ekstraklasa 2013/14 season he came against Śląsk Wrocław for his first league appearance for the new employer. Just one match day later, Duda scored his first goal in the highest Polish league against Wisła Krakow . The midfielder was able to score three goals in the second half of the season and became Polish champions with Legia. In the following season, Duda also made his debut in qualifying for the UEFA Champions League and later in the UEFA Europa League . In the 2014/15 season he was also Polish Vice-Champion and Polish Cup winner with Legia . On July 30, 2015, Duda was hit in the 51st minute of the game against FK Kukësi in the qualification for the Europa League when the score was 1: 2 by a stone thrown from the spectator stands and went to the ground. As a result of this incident, the game was retrospectively rated 3-0 by the UEFA Disciplinary Committee.

Germany and England

Duda made his Bundesliga debut for Hertha on February 25, 2017 in a 2-0 win against Eintracht Frankfurt when he came on for Vladimír Darida in the 89th minute . Duda scored his first goal for Hertha BSC on October 1, 2017 in the Bundesliga match against FC Bayern Munich . On September 2, 2018, he scored his first "double" in a 2-0 away win at FC Schalke 04 . In his most successful season at Hertha, 2018/19 , the midfielder played 35 competitive games in which he scored eleven goals and prepared another seven. In the summer of 2019, he extended his contract in Berlin prematurely.

After the Slovak in the first round 2019/20 was nine times used only (one goal, two assists), he was until end of season in the Premier League at Norwich City awarded. Duda was in the starting line-up in all seven league games until the season was interrupted due to the COVID-19 pandemic . Since the seasons had to be extended in both countries and the Premier League will end later than the Bundesliga, the loan arrangement was extended beyond June 30, 2020. However, a clause contained in the loan contract came into effect after the 35th matchday when Norwich's sporting relegation was established. Without direct goal participation after a total of ten games, the Slovak returned to Hertha in mid-July.

National team

After Duda went through all junior national teams since the Slovak U19 national team , he made his debut on March 31, 2015 under coach Ján Kozák in a friendly against the Czech Republic at Štadión pod Dubňom in Žilina and scored 1-0 in the 49th minute of the game.

At the 2016 European Championships in France, he was included in the Slovak squad. In the opening game against Wales he was substituted on in the 60th minute and scored the 1-1 equalizer just 52 seconds later. It was the second fastest joker goal in European Championship history. He was in the starting line-up against Russia and was substituted when the score was 2-0. In the last group game against England he was on the field for over two thirds of the season. He was not used against Germany in the second round when the team was eliminated.
