Rune Almenning Jarstein (born September 29, 1984 in Porsgrunn , Telemark ) is a Norwegian football goalkeeper who is under contract with the German Bundesliga club Hertha BSC . In 2018 he was Norway's Footballer of the Year.
Career

Rune Jarstein played in the youth of Herkules IF in Skien until 2002 . During this time he completed a trial training at Manchester United .
In 2002, the first division side Odd Grenland signed him , for whom he made his debut at the age of 18. When Odd Grenland relegated in 2007, he moved to league rivals Rosenborg Trondheim with whom he won the championship two years later . When Jarstein lost his regular place to Daniel Örlund , he moved to Viking Stavanger in 2010 . After four seasons and 116 games, membership of the club ended in November 2013 due to the expiring contract.
As a reinforcement and as a competition for Thomas Kraft , Hertha BSC signed him as an experienced goalkeeper from January 1, 2014 and provided him with a contract valid until June 30, 2016. He made his Bundesliga debut on March 28, 2014 (28th matchday) in the 2-0 defeat in the away game against FC Schalke 04 . In the 2015/16 season, he came on as a substitute for injured goalkeeper Thomas Kraft on matchday five at a 2-0 draw in Wolfsburg in the second half. He stayed in goal for the rest of the season. Only in the 0: 2 on matchday 31 at Bayern Munich was strength again in goal. In the 2016/17 season he played all 34 season games and became the new No. 1 in Berlin. In the 2017/18 season, coach Pal Dardai relies on the Norwegian national goalkeeper. Jarstein played with Hertha BSC in the 2017/18 season in the Europa League.
National team
Jarstein first completed international matches for the U-16 to U-21 national teams of Norway.
On 22 August 2007, he made his international debut in the senior team , in Oslo , the selection of Argentina with 2: beat first He was also in goal in the 1-0 win against Germany on February 11, 2009 in Düsseldorf .
For a long time behind Jon Knudsen the "number two" in the Norwegian goal, he established himself as the regular goalkeeper of the senior national team and from March 2011 played all European qualifying matches for the 2012 European Championship . He played the qualification for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, where Norway finished fourth in Group C with Germany, the Czech Republic, Northern Ireland, Azerbaijan and San Marino.
