Marvin Plattenhardt was born in Filderstadt in the Baden-Württemberg district of Esslingen and began playing football in his home town of Frickenhausen at 1. FC Frickenhausen when he was seven . In 2005 he moved to FV Nürtingen and in August 2006 to the youth department of SSV Reutlingen .

1. FC Nuremberg

1. FC Nürnberg signed him in 2008. He became a U17 national player and won the U17 European Championship with the German junior team in 2009 . In the same year he also took part in the U17 World Cup and then moved to the U18.

At 1. FC Nürnberg, Plattenhardt moved from the U-19s to the second team in the 2010/11 season. In November 2010, three defenders fell out of the Bundesliga team due to a dismissal and two injuries. Plattenhardt was then nominated as a substitute for the first team. After the failures had proven to be long-term and three games in a row had been lost, he came on December 5, 2010 in the game against Borussia Dortmund for his first appearance in the Bundesliga. On the 33rd matchday in the 2012/13 season, Plattenhardt scored his first goal for 1. FC Nürnberg in the game against Fortuna Düsseldorf . His contract ran until 2014.

Hertha BSC

After the club's relegation, Plattenhardt moved to Hertha BSC for the 2014/15 season . He scored his first goal for Hertha BSC in the 4-0 away win on matchday 16 of the 2015/16 season on December 12, 2015 in the game against SV Darmstadt 98 with the goal to make it 2-0. His contract runs until 2023.

National team

On October 16, 2008 Plattenhardt made his national team debut in the German U17 game against the Czech Republic . At the U17 European Championship in 2009 , he played every game and won the title with the DFB selection. In the 2009/10 season he took part in the U17 World Cup in Nigeria . He has since gone through all other junior national teams. In the game against the English U19 on February 8, 2011, he took on as team captain . In the course with two friendly matches in Saarbrücken , Plattenhardt was again captain in the game against Ukraine (3-0) after being substituted on four days earlier against Belgium (1-2) in the 60th minute.

After the 2011/12 season change, Plattenhardt was still part of the junior national team. In addition to the games against Poland and Switzerland (August 31 and September 4, 2011), he was also nominated for the double match day against Italy in Reutlingen (October 5, 2011) and against Switzerland in Pfullendorf (October 9, 2011). He had to cancel the latter at short notice due to an injury. Since Plattenhardt had played several international junior matches and Bundesliga matches at the time, his youth clubs FC Frickenhausen and FV 09 Nürtingen were honored by the DFB and checks to the value of 3200 and 1200 euros respectively were presented during the half-time break of the game against Switzerland .

After several appearances in the Bundesliga, Plattenhardt was nominated by the then U21 national coach Rainer Adrion for the European Championship qualifiers in Greece (November 11, 2011 in Tripoli) and Cyprus (November 15, 2011 in Dasaki).

National coach Joachim Löw nominated Plattenhardt in the German national team for the Confederations Cup in Russia in summer 2017. He made his international debut on June 6, 2017 in Brøndby in a 1-1 draw in a friendly against the Danish national team . During the tournament he came in the third group game against Cameroon for his only use; he was only a substitute for the regular Jonas Hector in the position of left-back .
