Peter Pekarík (born October 30, 1986 in Žilina , Žilinský kraj ) is a Slovak football player . The defender has been under contract with Bundesliga club Hertha BSC since the 2012/13 season .

Career

societies

Peter Pekarík joined the professional squad of FK ZTS Dubnica in 2004 . After good performance and fourth place in the Slovak Corgoň league , the defensive player was poached by league competitor MŠK Žilina . In 2007, Pekarík won his first national title in the 2000s series championship. With his good and constant style of play, the young player drew the attention of other European clubs. In the winter break of the 2008/09 season he finally moved to the Bundesliga for VfL Wolfsburg .

The right full-back made his debut in the German Bundesliga on matchday 18, January 31, 2009, in a 1-1 draw against 1. FC Köln . At halftime he changed coach Felix Magath for Cristian Zaccardo . With the exception of one game, he played in all second round matches and won the German championship with the Wolfsburg team for the first time in the club's history. However, towards the end of the season he had been substituted more and more often and was only brought in as a substitute. In the following year he barely got a chance under the new coach Armin Veh , only the new coach Lorenz-Günther Köstner relied more on the Slovak in the second half of the season. Pekarík's third year at the VW factory club was similarly volatile. Sometimes he was a regular for over 90 minutes, then he only played parts of a game and the third coach of the season, Felix Magath, who had brought him to Wolfsburg in his first term, finally largely foregone his services in the decisive games in the relegation battle . After all, he got 23 missions.

Pekarík moved in August 2011 on loan for the 2011/12 season to the Turkish first division club Kayserispor .

During the summer break of 2012, Pekarík moved to Hertha BSC in the 2nd Bundesliga . After he was promoted to the first Bundesliga with Berlin this season, he scored his first Bundesliga goal in his 151st Bundesliga game in a 3-1 home defeat against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim on March 31, 2017.

On February 14, 2018, Hertha BSC announced that they had extended their contract with Pekarík. No official information was given for the duration of the contract.

National team

Pekarík is the current national player of Slovakia . He made his debut in 2006. Since then he has been regularly called up for his country's international matches.

At the European Football Championship in France in 2016 , he was included in the Slovak squad and was in the regular team in all tournament games. He was one of the players who played all games over the full playing time. The team reached the round of 16 and was eliminated from Germany .
