Jon Knudsen (born November 20, 1974 in Skedsmo ) is a former Norwegian football goalkeeper and was the national goalkeeper of Norway until 2011 .
Career
society
Knudsen began his career in the youth club of his hometown Leirsund, then moved to the youth department of the Norwegian first division club Lillestrøm SK and took part in the 1993 Junior World Cup with the Norwegian selection . In the same year he rose to the professional team of Lillestrøm and was a replacement for the Norwegian national goalkeeper Frode Grodås . He made his professional debut in June 1993 when he played against Ham-Kam when Grodås had to be replaced in the first half due to an injury. At this point Lillestrøm was 2-0 down, but was able to turn the game around and eventually win 4-3. The next game against Molde FK was won 3-0 and was thus his first game without a goal. After another four games, Grodås recovered and Knudsen was a substitute again.
In order to gain match practice, he was loaned to several clubs in the following years. In Strømsgodset Toppfotball he broke his leg in a game against Stabæk Fotball after colliding with a teammate, resulting in a thirteen-month break. After that there were further lending deals with Skjetten SK and Kongsvinger IL .
In 1999 he left Norway for Denmark and signed with Ikast FS , which merged with FC Midtjylland that same year . After just 15 games, he moved to the Norwegian first division club Stabæk Fotball to replace the goalkeeper Frode Olsen , who was moving to Sevilla FC . There he quickly became a regular goalkeeper and played all games of the 2000/01 season. Due to an epileptic seizure in June 2001 and had to sit out for most games of the 2001/02 season. With Stabæk he reached third place in 2003 and second place in 2007. In 2008 he won the Norwegian championship with his club, which was also Stabæk's first championship win.
In the 2011 season, however, he lost his regular place to Jan Kjell Larsen , which is why he moved to Fredrikstad FK in 2012 .
National team
In 2007 Knudsen was appointed to the squad of the Norwegian national football team for the first time for the qualifying game for the 2008 European Championship against Malta .
He made his national team debut on October 11, 2008 in the game against Scotland , which ended 0-0.
