Oerlikon Balzers is a Liechtenstein company of the Swiss OC Oerlikon Group. The Oerlikon Group produces technology in mechanical and plant engineering and offers solutions for thin-film coatings, vacuum systems, textile production as well as drive and precision technology.
history
With the support of Prince Franz Josef II and the Swiss industrialist Emil Georg Bührle , Max Auwärter founded the Balzers equipment manufacturing company in 1946. The aim was to make the until then largely unknown and little researched vacuum thin film technology industrially usable. Since at that time neither systems nor devices were available for the production of thin film coatings , the company developed and produced these itself without further ado. The first popular applications were sun protection and anti-reflective coatings for eyeglass lenses, anti-reflective coatings for camera lenses, optical filters and reflectors as well Thin films for electronic applications.
In 1976 the company became a member of the Oerlikon Group, then Oerlikon-Bührle Holding AG. In 1983, the first coating center outside Liechtenstein was opened in Italy, and one year later in the United States. The first coating center in Asia started operations in Japan in 1987.
In June 2014, the Oerlikon Group took over the Sulzer Metco division from the Swiss company Sulzer AG , which has since operated under the name Oerlikon Metco. Oerlikon Metco's thin film division has been integrated into Oerlikon Balzers since 2015. Together, the two companies form the Surface Solutions segment of the Oerlikon Group.
Oerlikon Balzers has a growing network of more than 100 coating centers in over 35 countries and employs more than 5,100 people worldwide.
The headquarters of Oerlikon Balzers is in Balzers , Liechtenstein, where over 560 people are currently employed.
Products
The company offers contract coatings in Europe, America and Asia, PVD and PACVD based coatings, heat treatment solutions and coating systems. The products and services are used in the fields of machining , metal forming, plastics processing and die casting in the automotive and transport, aerospace , medicine, food and packaging, energy, consumer goods and mechanical engineering sectors .
