Soccer
In 1988 the football department qualified for participation in the UEFA Intertoto Cup . The team convinced in group seven and left the Austrians from SK Sturm Graz and the two Israeli teams Beitar Jerusalem and Shimshon Tel Aviv behind as the winners of the preliminary round . In six games, the team only gave up points in a 1-1 draw against Sturm Graz. The team achieved the highest victory in the 6-0 home win against Beitar. As a result, the club was able to call itself one of eleven teams as Intertoto Cup winners. This allowed the club to start in the UEFA Cup . After 1-0 and 2-1 against First Vienna FC 1894 , however, the team was eliminated in the first round of the competition due to the away goals rule. In 1991 Ikast also played in the Intertoto Cup for a place in the UEFA Cup . This time, the team won just one point against SV Austria Salzburg , Hallescher FC and Váci Izzó MTE . The game against Hallescher FC ended with a 2-5 defeat.
By 1999, the club played a total of 17 seasons in Denmark's top division. In the 1980s and 1997 the Danish Cup final could be reached, which was lost to FC Copenhagen . In 1999 the first team of Ikast FS merged with Herning Fremad, a club from neighboring Herning , to form FC Midtjylland . During the merger, Herning Fremad's stadium was chosen as the home ground and so there was no longer a successful football club in Ikast until it was re-established in the same year. Both Ikast FS and Herning Fremad continue to exist and have their own youth teams. This was a continuation of a concept practiced especially in Denmark, which should enable smaller clubs to establish themselves economically and athletically permanently in the top division.
2007 succeeded the promotion to the second division; A promotion to the first division is not possible, as the club is considered the second team of FC Midtjylland.
