Anja Jul Andersen (born February 15, 1969 in Odense , Denmark ) is a former Danish handball player and current handball trainer .

Her parents Keld and Vivi played in the Danish national handball teams, so that Anja had come into contact with the sport from an early age. Even while playing, Anja Andersen gained a reputation as the enfant terrible of Danish handball. Even as a trainer, she repeatedly made the front page of the Danish tabloid press, which was attentive to this, because of excessive expressions of discontent. However, her success as a trainer confirms her popularity.

Anja Andersen is considered one of the best handball players of all time. She was used as a backcourt player and was with

active.

Between 1989 and 1999 she played 133 times for the Danish national team and scored 725 goals.

Coaching career

When she had to end her career early in 1999 because of serious heart problems, she became the coach of the second division club Slagelse FH. The ascent was an immediate success and, under Anja Andersen's leadership, the team quickly developed into one of the best in women's handball worldwide. She managed to bring some of the best handball players in the country to Slagelse, including her former national team colleague Janne Kolling. Slagelse FH (renamed “Slagelse DT”) won the Danish championship for the first time in 2003.

In 2006 Anja Andersen became the Serbian national coach. After Serbia successfully qualified for the 2006 European Championship against the runner-up world champion Romania, she gave up the post due to disagreements with the association.

In the summer of 2008 Andersen moved from Slagelse DT to FCK Handbold. The way in which this change took place earned the start coach a lot of criticism. Practically the entire first set left Slagelse, some players signed contracts with FCK. The main sponsors also went with Andersen. In the main round of the Champions League 2008 Slagelse appeared with a B-team and was no longer competitive.

After she finished her coaching position at FCK in the summer of 2010, she took over the coaching position of the Romanian club CS Oltchim Râmnicu Vâlcea in February 2011. After a month of coaching, she was fired. In the summer of 2011 she was accepted into the coaching team of the men's team at Viborg HK . After Andersen had finished her job in Viborg, she took over the coaching of the U-18 girls' team from HC Odense in the summer of 2012.
