Zhai Chao ( Chinese  翟 超 , Pinyin Zhái Chāo ; born December 14, 1971 in Beijing ) is a former Chinese handball player . She was elected world handball player in 2002.

Zhai started playing handball in 1985. In 1998 she moved from Beijing to the German club SV Berliner VG 49 , for which she played until 2000. Then the back court player went four years for the Danish first division club Randers HK on the hunt for goals before moving to league rivals Viborg HK . In 2007 she ended her active career in Viborg. After the birth of her daughter, she returned to the Viborg squad again in the 2008/09 season.

For the Chinese national team , she scored more than 1,000 goals in over 100 international matches. At the 2001 World Cup , she scored a total of 49 goals in 6 games, which she and Maja Savić took 6th place on the list of goalscorers. She also took part in the 1996 and 2004 Olympic Games .
