Hans Einar Magnus Wislander (born February 22, 1964 in Gothenburg , Sweden ) is a former Swedish handball player . Wislander was voted World Handballer of the Century by the IHF .

Career

In the club

After Wislander had played for the Gothenburg club Tuve IF since 1973 , he moved to Redbergslids IK Göteborg in 1979 . In 1990 he moved to the top German club THW Kiel , where he played until 2002 and was German champion seven times . In 2002 Wislander moved again to Redbergslids IK as a player- coach. In 2005 he ended his career and worked as the club's coach until his dismissal on November 20, 2012. He then stayed with the club as an assistant coach until the end of the 2019/20 season.

Under the roof of the Ostseehalle , the venue of the THW Kiel, hangs his jersey with the number 2, which will never be awarded in his honor. Wislander scored 1,371 goals in 369 Bundesliga games for Kiel ( rate : 3.72 goals / game).

Wislander mostly played in the playmaker position in the middle of the backcourt . In the last few years of his career he was used as a cyclist .

In the national team

On January 16, 1985 Wislander made his national team debut in the Baltic Cup against the Soviet Union . Up to his last international match against Germany on October 19, 2004 in Kiel , he played 384 international matches in which he scored 1,185 goals ( rate : 3.09 goals / game). With the national team, Wislander won two world championship titles, four European championship titles and was three times vice Olympic champion .

Private

Wislander is married and has three children. His daughter Therese played handball in the Elitserien , the highest Swedish league. In October 2019, he suffered a minor stroke.
