Cecilie Leganger (born March 12, 1975 in Bergen , Norway ) is a former Norwegian handball player .

Career

The goalkeeper started playing handball at Løv-Ham when she was 13. After she then played for Fyllingen Håndball and Tertnes IL, she interrupted her career for a year because she felt burned out.

In 1997 she made her comeback at Bækkelagets SK , with which she won a total of five national and international titles in the following four years. She then returned to Ternes IL. Two years later, the world handball player of the year 2001 left Norway to play for the top Slovenian club Krim Ljubljana . With Krim she reached the final of the Champions League, where she was defeated by her later club Slagelse DT . In 2008 Leganger moved to league rivals FCK Håndbold , where she guarded the goal for a total of two years. Leganger then signed a contract with the Norwegian top club Larvik HK . After the 2012/13 season, she ended her career. After a serious injury to Lene Rantala , Leganger was reactivated by Larvik HK in autumn 2013. In the first competitive game on October 5, 2013, she injured the Achilles tendon and was then injured. In September 2014 she announced the end of her career.

She made her international debut in the Norwegian national team on February 2, 1993. She played 162 internationals for Norway, in which she scored 1 goal. With the Norwegian team she won the European Championship in 1998 and the World Championship the following year .

Since 2016 she has been working as a goalkeeper coach in promoting young talent. In autumn 2018 she took over the position of goalkeeping coach from Fana IL.
