Stéphane Stoecklin (born January 12, 1969 in Bourgoin-Jallieu ) is a former French handball player . He last played for the French club Chambéry Savoie HB , ran for the French men's national handball team and was mostly used in the right backcourt during his playing days .

Stéphane Stoecklin began playing handball in his hometown at the age of seven. At the age of 16 he moved to the handball academy of the neighboring second division Chambéry Savoie HB , where he also made his debut in the professional team. From 1988 he played at Montpellier HB, which was then promoted to the first division . There he was voted French handball player of the year in 1989, so that in 1990 the USAM Nîmes first division took him under contract. With the team he won the French championship in 1991 and 1993. After winning the French Cup in 1994, he moved on to the capital club PSG-Asnières . Here he won no titles, so he went to GWD Minden in the German handball league in 1996 . During his time in Minden he was voted World Handballer of the Year in 1997; in the 1997/98 season he was the top scorer in the handball Bundesliga. In 1998 he went to Japan to join Honda Suzuka . He won the Japanese Championship in 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003, and the Japanese Cup in 1999 and 2003. From 2003 to 2005 he let his career end at his first professional club, Chambéry Savoie HB - now in the top division.

In his career, Stoecklin played 238 games for the French men's national handball team and scored 900 goals. With the national team he won the bronze medal at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona . At the men's handball world championship in 1995 he was world champion, in 1993 he won the silver medal , in 1997 the bronze medal.
