Handball Bundesliga 1990/91

The Handball Bundesliga 1991/92 was the 26th season of the highest German division in men's handball in the history of the Handball Bundesliga . After German reunification , it was the first season that was played together from start to finish. The season began on September 20, 1991 and ended with the last game day on March 8, 1992.

28 teams played for the German championship in 1992. For the first time since the handball Bundesliga season 1976/77 the team played again with a north and a south seasons with 14 teams each. In addition to the 13 teams of the "West" Bundesliga season 1990/91 and their three promoters SG VfL / BHW Hameln , HSG TuRU Düsseldorf and TV Eitra 1910 , the ten clubs of the GDR major league of the German handball association of the 1990/91 season , in detail SC Magdeburg , HC Preußen Berlin (as SV Blau-Weiß Spandau ), SC Leipzig , BFV Frankfurt / Oder , HC Empor Rostock , EHV Wismut Aue , ThSV Eisenach , Dessauer SV ZAB , BSV Stahl Brandenburg and SV Post Telekom Schwerin , as well as two of them Newcomers HSV Suhl and SC Cottbus set. Bundesliga relegated had the VfL Bad Schwartau , SV Blau-Weiß Spandau , BFV Frankfurt / Oder , SV Post Telekom Schwerin , BSV Stahl Brandenburg , SC Leipzig , ThSV Eisenach , HSV Suhl , Dessauer SV ZAB , SC Cottbus and EHV Wismut Aue . A relegation round was played in two groups with ten teams, two of which played in the first division in the next season. The ninth and tenth of the 1st Bundesliga North and South as well as the first two of the three 2nd Bundesliga took part in the relegation round. In contrast to the better placed team from Bad Schwartau, Empor Rostock was able to secure the league.

In 364 games - not including play-offs - there were a total of 14,549 goals (average 40 per game), 0.7 fewer goals than in the 1990/91 season . There were 235 home wins, 38 draws and 91 away wins. The HSG TuRU Düsseldorf recorded the highest home win on matchday 17 with 27:10 against HC Empor Rostock . The highest away win was achieved by the SG Wallau / Massenheim team on matchday 21 with 16:30 at EHV Wismut Aue . The highest-scoring game took place on matchday 7 between TV Eitra 1910 and SC Cottbus and ended 35:25. That was 20 goals more than the overall average. The top scorer was Jochen Fraatz from TUSEM Essen with 212 goals .

As in the previous year, the team from TUSEM Essen secured the DHB Cup, which was played for the 18th time .

In the 182 games of the South Season, with a total of 7,271 goals, an average of almost 40 goals per game. There were 112 home wins, 20 draws and 50 away wins. The SG Wallau / Massenheim recorded the highest home win on the 8th matchday with 28:12 against EHV Wismut Aue . The team from SG Wallau / Massenheim also won the highest away win on matchday 21 with 16:30 against EHV Wismut Aue . The season was characterized by a strong imbalance between the East and West clubs starting together for the first time. The result of the round was that all eight started clubs from West Germany could hold the class, while all six East German starters had to relegate to the second division. DHB Cup

As in the previous year, the DHB Cup 1991/92 was won by the TUSEM Essen team . She defeated SG Flensburg-Handewitt 19:20 and 24:24 (5: 4 in the seven-meter throw) (44:43 in total) in the final after a two-way leg on May 17 and 24, 1992 .
