Mikael Kallman

Paul Mikael Källman (born February 12, 1964 in Karjaa ) is a Finnish handball coach and former handball player . Next to Nikola Karabatić and Filip Jícha , he is the only foreigner who has been voted handball player of the year in Germany , namely in 1992.

Källman played in the handball Bundesliga for twelve years and scored a total of 1278 goals. He played for SG Wallau / Massenheim , with which he won the IHF Cup and the German Championship, and for TUSEM Essen . He mostly played in the middle of the back room , and with a height of 1.87 m he had an extraordinary talent for movement and a hard placed throw.

For Finland he played 116 international matches , in which he scored 764 goals. In 2004 he ended his career in Finland with BK 46 Karis as Finnish runner-up. Before that, he had been Finnish champion six times and cup winner four times. Källman is considered the best Finnish handball player of all time. He was voted best handball player of the year twelve times in Finland from 1985 to 1996 and twice in 2000 and 2002.

In 2008 Källman took over the coaching position of the Finnish club HC West, which he led to the championship in 2011 and 2012 and to the Finnish cup win in 2009 and 2012. In addition, Källman coached the Finnish national team from 2009 . Källmann left HC West in the summer of 2015 and switched to league rivals Atlas Vantaa. At the same time he gave up his coaching position for the Finnish national team. He left Atlas Vantaa in August 2016. He has been training BK-46 since the 2017/18 season.
