German handball championship 1966

The 1966/67 Bundesliga season was the first of the two-pronged seasons in the history of the handball Bundesliga .

16 teams that had qualified via the regional championships of the previous season played in a north and a south season of eight teams each for the qualification for the final game of the German championship in 1967.

The two season winners met in the final of the German handball championship on March 25, 1967 in the Westfalenhalle in Dortmund . For the second time in the club's history, the German champion was the defending champion and winner of the northern season, VfL Gummersbach , who clearly defeated the champions of the southern season, TV Hochdorf . RSV Mülheim , SV St. Georg Hamburg , TV 05 Hochelheim and TSV 1861 Zirndorf had to relegate .

The VfL Gummersbach also won the European Champions Cup .

Final of the German championship

The game for the German championship was played on March 25, 1967 between the winner of the North Season and defending champion VfL Gummersbach and the South Season winner, TV Hochdorf , in front of about 8,000 spectators in Dortmund's Westfalenhalle . German handball champions in 1967 became the team of VfL Gummersbach for the second time in the club's history, which clearly defeated the team from TV Hochdorf with 23: 7 (8: 3).
