Klaus Brand (handball player)

Klaus Brand (born August 7, 1941 in Gummersbach ) is a former German handball player and coach .

Like his younger brothers Jochen and Heiner , Klaus Brand was a member of VfL Gummersbach from an early age and - like his brothers - became a German national player .

Klaus Brand won three German championships with VfL Gummersbach as a player in the 1960s and early 1970s. In 1967 Klaus Brand was involved as captain together with his brother Jochen when VfL won the European Cup for the first time with 17:13 against Dukla Prague. Also in 1970 at the 14:11 against Dynamo Berlin, Klaus and Jochen Brand were there. In 1971 he moved to the neighbor TuS Derschlag , with whom he rose as a player and later as a player-coach in the one-piece Bundesliga. In 1984 he returned as head coach to VfL Gummersbach and brought the championship title to Gummersbach in the 1984/85 season .

On April 28, 1967, he was awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf for his athletic achievements.
