Erik Eggers (* 1968 in Hollingstedt near Schleswig ) is a German historian , author and sports journalist .

Eggers studied in Kiel and Cologne and the German Sports University in Cologne the subjects history , sports history and economics . Until 2001 he worked as a research assistant at the History Department of the University of Bonn and is a freelance journalist . Eggers mainly publishes books on handball . He was one of the group of authors from the Humboldt University who published the study Doping in Germany in 2013 and thus triggered a major debate on sport policy.
