The gymnastics and sports association Derschlag was founded in 1881 in Derschlag , a district of Gummersbach . He played alongside VfL Gummersbach in the first handball league .
history
On July 12, 1881, several men founded the Derschlag gymnastics club. The association strived for an all-round physical fitness and character education and the "giving and spreading of gymnastics". The first gymnasium was on the Steinagger known as "Schorenköppchen" near the previous monument, the older Dersch camps. Due to the relocation of the stone excavator, the gymnasium at the stone excavator had to be given up.
In order to be able to continue the practice operations, the gymnasium was built on Bäuweg. The gymnasium was built in-house between 1921 and 1924. After a spacious, state-of-the-art sports center was built on Epelberg in the early 1980s, which fully meets today's requirements with the sports field, swimming pool and two sports halls, the gym on Bäuweg was forgotten. February 2, 1946 is to be regarded as an important event in the history of the association. On this day, the Derschlager Turnverein 1881 merged with its handball department, founded in 1929, and the FC Borussia 1881 Derschlag football club. The successes of the following years show that the athletes acted correctly. An influx of new members made the association flourish.
Due to the size and economic strength of the individual departments, the decision was made on March 5, 2004 to let the football department run again as FC Borussia Derschlag, as in previous years they had come threateningly close to the limit of corporate income tax have to pay.
Furthermore, the footballers of FC Borussia Derschlag are planning to build a club home on the sports field on the Epelberg in the medium term. With the separation, this can work without any problems from the handball department.

In 1975 the team was able to move up from the town, which had around 2000 inhabitants at the time, to the first handball league and finished fifth in the 1976/77 Bundesliga season. At the end of the 1977/1978 season, the first men's team had to descend from the top class because the club could not meet the financial requirements. Until the 1981/82 season , the Derschlager played in the second highest German division, the regional and from 1981 the 2nd Bundesliga. In the mid-1980s, the TuS were represented again and for two years in the 2nd Bundesliga, but then rose to the fifth class association league. It was not until 2005 that they were promoted to the third-class Regionalliga West. After only one season, the Derschlager went back to the league, in which they played until the 2014/15 season. In the 2015/16 season, TuS played in the 3rd league as handball sport Gummersbach / Derschlag through a cooperation with the second representative of VfL Gummersbach . Then Derschlag returned to the league.
