The TV Hochdorf ( gymnastics club 1894 Hochdorf ), founded in 1894, is a traditional sports club in the Rhineland-Palatinate community of Hochdorf-Assenheim , which became known nationwide through the success of its handball players.

The club's most successful sporting times were the 1960s and 1970s; In modern indoor handball as well as in traditional field handball , TV Hochdorf was a founding member in 1966 in the southern relay of the national leagues of the two sports that were newly introduced by the DHB .

In the 2013/14 season , the first team of the TVH ( Die Biber ) played in the southern season of the 3rd handball league .

Handball

The greatest success of the Hochdorf handball players - the runner-up in the first Bundesliga season in 1966/67 - came as a surprise: because the TVH had never qualified for the finals for the German indoor championship and only had the finals of the southwest German regional championship in 1966 qualified as third place for participation in the new handball Bundesliga . In the Bundesliga South, however, the team stayed the first seven games without losing points and led the table after the first half of the season with a six point lead over a densely staggered midfield. In the second half of the season, Hochdorf also had to cope with a few defeats, including the highest home defeat of all teams with a 9:20 against the closest pursuer, SG Leutershausen , the runner-up in the championship finals in 1966 , but remained with a narrow point advantage on the last matchday ahead of the SGL table leader. The final of the German handball championship against the winner of the Bundesliga North, VfL Gummersbach , took place on March 25, 1967 in Dortmund's Westfalenhalle ; this was largely lost (23: 7).

The TV Hochdorf was able to hold on to five more seasons in the Bundesliga South, but could not build on the success of the first season; at the end of the 1971/72 season , relegation had to be accepted. From 1972 to 1975, the TVH played in the then second-rate Regionalliga Südwest, then the club rose to the third-rate league.

The TVH was not back until ten years later, and was promoted to the 1983/84 season; in the meantime, however, the Regionalliga Südwest - after the introduction of the 2nd Bundesliga handball league in 1981 - had become the third division. In the following years the TVH commuted several times between the Oberliga and the Regionalliga. Between 1998 and 2002 the Hochdorfer entered a syndicate with TSG Haßloch and played again in the HSG Haßloch / Hochdorf in the Regionalliga Südwest. After the HSG was terminated, it took until 2006 for the group to be promoted to the regional league again. Since then, the TVH has been able to hold the third division, initially in the regional league, since the introduction of the third division in handball for the 2010/11 season in the southern season of the third division.

Field handball

In field handball, TV Hochdorf was able to celebrate successes earlier than in the hall. In 1962, 1965 and 1966 the club was the Southwest German Champion.

Via the Southwest German regional championship round, the TVH was able to qualify for the final round of the German championship for the first time in the 1960 season, as well as in 1962 , 1964 , 1965 and 1966 ; But Hochdorf failed in the first round.

The following years of the strongest sporting years of TV Hochdorf coincide with the slow decline of the open-air variant of the handball game on the large field. In 1966, as in the hall, the TVH qualified on the field for the newly introduced Bundesliga and was able to hold the class in all seven official seasons until the end of field handball.

Also in the field handball was the runner-up the biggest club success, this was achieved in the season 1970 : In the Bundesliga, South Hochdorf became only second to the SG Leutershausen, but could in the two semi-finals against the winner of the North season, the TuS Wellinghofen , narrowly enforce a goal lead. In the final on August 16, 1970 in Minden, Hochdorf was defeated by TSV Grün-Weiß Dankersen with 15:11.

The Hochdorfer were able to repeat this success two years later in the 1972 season, which was held as a cup competition ; Hochdorf was the winner of the southern season with a clear four point lead over TS Steinheim . After the semi-finals won by the southern clubs, the two clubs met again in the final on August 20, 1972 in Rüsselsheim , in extra time Hochdorf had to admit defeat (15:17).

Other departments

In addition to the handball department, the TVH has departments for square dance , badminton , taekwondo and tennis .
