The Leichlinger TV is a sports club in the Westphalia North Rhine- city Leichlingen (Rheinland) in the Rheinisch-Bergisch district .

The club is known nationwide for its success in handball . The club's first men's team plays in the third division .

The history of handball at LTV

In 1931 the handball department was founded as a subdivision from the club's gymnastics team. It should take over 40 years for initial successes. In 1975 the first men's team came second in the second district class. In the following year there was promotion to 1st class and a year later promotion to the district league. In 1994 they were promoted to the regional league and a year later the LTV was playing in the association league. In 1999 there was promotion to the league and in the 2003/04 season promotion to the regional league .

In the 2007/08 season, the Leichling TV master of the Handball Regionalliga West and thus rose to the 2nd handball Bundesliga for the first time in its history. The team ended their first second division season in 2009 on the penultimate place in the southern group, which was only enough to stay in the league due to the withdrawal of HR Ortenau and the merger of TSG Münster with SG Wallau . A season later, the team finished last in the final table and was relegated.

In the 2015/16 season, the Leichlinger TV master of the Third League West. The associated promotion to the 2nd handball league was not noticed for financial reasons.
