Gehlberg

The Gehlberg nature reserve is located south of the B 482 and the Döhren district of the city of Petershagen , directly on the Gehle stream . The area is around 69  hectares and is listed under the number MI-051, the northern part is predominantly owned by the State of North Rhine-Westphalia. The terrain slopes down from the east towards Gehle and forms the transition from the higher Loccumer Heide to the Lahder Terraces.

The protection was placed in order to preserve and promote the diversity of habitats for plants and animals that occur close together. The nature reserve is particularly characterized by the variety of parts of the landscape. Wet and dry areas, extensively used grassland, fallow land, deciduous forest and flowing waters alternate.

Accordingly, well-developed and rare plant communities with the occurrence of various species on the NRW Red List have been preserved in the area. Due to the diversity of these parts of the landscape, there are still 30 different breeding bird species here.
