The approximately 19 hectare Lahder Marsch nature reserve is located in the natural area of the Weser Valley around one kilometer south of the Lahde district of the city of Petershagen and is part of the EU bird sanctuary " Weseraue ". As part of this bird sanctuary, the Lahder Marsch is part of the Natura 2000 network of special conservation areas as defined by the Habitats Directive .

The area essentially comprises five former gravel excavations in the lowlands of the Bückeburger Aue and Weser, of which the two eastern excavations have been placed under nature protection. The purpose of protection is the preservation and optimization of near-natural excavation waters and protection as an important breeding, resting, moulting, migration and wintering area for a large number of waders and water birds. These include in particular the teal , the teal and the little grebe . The islands as well as peninsulas and willow bushes and reeds along the banks are characteristic.

The Lahder Marsch nature reserve is managed in the Minden-Lübbecke district under the official number MI 034. The land is owned by the district.
