HR Ortenau (handball region Ortenau, HRO) was a team in the southern season of the 2nd handball Bundesliga in the 2008/2009 season . The team was trained by Goran Suton . The short-lived syndicate of five clubs in the Ortenau district was dissolved again after bankruptcy at the end of the season.

The association was an amalgamation of the handball departments of TV 08 Willstätt , TuS Schutterwald , HGW Hofweier , HC Hedos Elgersweier and TuS Altenheim . The headquarters of the HRO was Offenburg , the economic sponsor of the team was the HRO Handballspielbetriebs GmbH , whose main shareholders were the five founding clubs .

The first men's team of this project had taken over the existing second division license of TV Willstätt, which had ended the previous season in the southern season in third place in the table. The merger promised to be able to build on the successes of previous years - Schutterwald, Hofweier and Willstätt had first division experience - and to be able to re-establish first division handball in the region in the long term, but neither the sporting nor the economic goals could be achieved.

The team reached 10th place in the 2nd Bundesliga South, economically the necessary conditions for maintaining a second division team could not be created: On May 1, 2009, the bankruptcy proceedings were opened because large financing gaps for the current and the coming season could not be closed . The syndicate was dissolved.
