The Longericher Sport Club is a Cologne handball club with over 500 members and was registered as a club in 1926 .
The association is based in the Longerich district of Cologne . However, the home handball games are played in Chorweiler .
history
From 1975 to 1988 there was a syndicate with ESV Olympia Cologne under the name SG Olympia Longerich . In the first few years the team played in the Oberliga Mittelrhein and in 1982 was promoted to the regional league. Two years later, the team was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga and stayed there for another 4 years in the North relay. At the end of the 1987/88 season the syndicate rose to the regional league and disbanded in the course of this. The ESV Olympia took over the right to start in the regional league and the Longericher SC began again in the regional league from the 1988/1989 season.
Until 1993, the team managed to advance through continuous promotion to the association league. There they played another 4 years before the promotion to the Oberliga Mittelrhein could be achieved in 1997. A year later, the team around the then coach Didi Weber played again in the regional league. At the end of the 1998/1999 season the team was even about to move back into the 2nd Bundesliga, but the relegation game against TuS Jöllenbeck could not be won.
At the end of the 2001/2002 season, the LSC descended again in the Oberliga Mittelrhein. This happened through a voluntary waiver of further participation in the regional league.
After years of consolidation in the Oberliga Mittelrhein, the Middle Rhine Championship was won in the 2013/2014 season. In the subsequent relegation games for promotion to the 3rd handball Bundesliga, the Longericher SC could not completely make away the 6 goals defeat in the first leg and ultimately failed because of one goal.
The LSC started the 2014/2015 season with a slightly different squad. After a bumpy start to the season due to some injured players, the 2014/2015 championship was successfully defended in the end. In the following two relegation games, the LSC met the Niederrheinmeister TV Aldekerk. The LSC won the relegation first leg in its own hall with 26:21. In the relegation second leg in Aldekerk, a 30:31 away win was enough for the longed-for promotion to the 3rd handball league .
Promotion of young talent
The association promotes its offspring with specially trained coaches. In the younger youth teams, motor skills and social interaction are trained through mass sport. Talented young people are encouraged and trained more intensively by means of special training. The association organizes youth festivals and other events to give children and young people the fun of sport.
