Handball regional league 2001/02

The handball regional league 2001/02 started as in the previous year with six relays, which were organized jointly by the five regional associations. The six champions rose to the 2nd Bundesliga :

HSG Augustdorf / Hövelhof from the Regionalliga Nord,
Reinickendorfer Füchse from the Regionalliga Nordost,
TSV Bayer Dormagen from the Regionalliga West,
HSC Bad Neustadt from the Regionalliga Mitte,
TV Gelnhausen from the Regionalliga Südwest,
TSG Oßweil from the Regionalliga Süd.

The TV Jahn Duderstadt and the TG 1860 Münden switched to the Regionalliga Mitte.
The TuS 97 Bielefeld Jöllenbeck merged with the second division TSG Bielefeld for HSG 02 Bielefeld, which took in the 2nd league 2002/03.
