history

The predecessor of the association, the BSG Post Schwerin , was founded on September 21, 1966 . In the 1969/70 season they were promoted to the league , the top division of the GDR . Until the merger of the Oberliga and Bundesliga after the GDR joined the Federal Republic of Germany , the company sports association was a permanent member of the Oberliga. There, due to the comparatively high capacity of the sports and congress hall compared to the venues of the other league teams and the lack of competition from a football league team, the BSG had by far the highest average attendance every year the upper league.

Norbert Henke was the coach and manager of the Bundesliga team from 2005 to 2009 . At the end of the 2007/08 season, SV Post should have reduced its old debts from the past (first division) years. In the longer term, Norbert Henke planned to return to the 1st Bundesliga (“Project 2010”). From the 2009/10 season Post Schwerin was trained by Dirk Beuchler . Norbert Henke continued to work as managing director. In June 2010, his contract, which ran until June 2011, was terminated by the club and Sebastian Knauer was committed for two years. In the 2009/2010 season Ingo Heinze, who narrowly missed the title of top scorer in the 2nd Bundesliga, was named Player of the Season by the Schwerin fans. In addition, the SV Post Schwerin organized the BHU building materials cup every year in the Erich-Kästner-Halle. By reaching 8th place in the North Season at the end of the 2010/11 season, the club qualified for the single-track 2nd handball Bundesliga .

Due to economic difficulties, Post Schwerin Handball Bundesliga GmbH & Co KG, as the operating company of the men's second division team, filed for insolvency at the Schwerin District Court on September 21, 2012 . The operators had not been able to cover the seasonal budget. On October 22, 2012, the club stopped playing for the Bundesliga team. The independent licensing commission of Handball-Bundesliga GmbH then withdrew the club's license and imposed a fine of € 20,000 for incorrect information about the economic situation in the licensing process. The first men's team starts in the 2013/14 season in the 3. Liga, Season North , under the name SV Mecklenburg Schwerin .
