Stefan Schröder (born July 17, 1981 in Schwerin ) is a former German handball player . He played in the right winger position . He is now working as a handball trainer.

Career

Stefan Schröder began playing handball in the youth department of SV Post Schwerin . In 1999 the left-hander switched to SG Flensburg-Handewitt , where he initially played in the second team and trained in the professional field. He won his first title in 2001 by defeating Ademar León in the European Cup Winners' Cup. In 2004 he moved on loan to the first division promoted HSG Düsseldorf , with whom he achieved the goal of relegation. From July 1, 2005, Schröder played for HSV Hamburg in the handball Bundesliga . Following the bankruptcy and the withdrawal from the league of the Bundesliga team Schröder supports Oberliga team of HSV.

On June 6, 2009, Schröder set a new Bundesliga record with 21 goals in one game.

For the German national team he appeared 49 times and scored 99 goals. He took part in the European Championship in Norway (4th place), the World Cup in Croatia (5th place) and the European Championship 2010 in Austria, where he was seriously injured in the opening game against Poland. This was his last international match.

Schröder has been Vice President Youth and Competitive Sports at the Hamburg Handball Association since February 2018 . After the 2017/18 season, Schröder ended his active career at the Handball Sport Verein Hamburg, where he continues to work in marketing. Since several players were canceled due to injuries in August 2018, he was reactivated shortly before the start of the 2018/19 season. Since summer 2019 he has been working as a youth coordinator at the handball sports club Hamburg. For the 2020/21 season, Schröder also took over the coaching position of the A-youth from the handball sports club Hamburg, which competes in the A-youth Bundesliga .

Private

Schröder is married to Stefanie, the daughter of the former German national handball player Roberto Pries , with whom he has three children.
