Roberto Pries (born November 2, 1955 in Altenmoor ; † May 29, 2012 ) was a German handball player . In 2012 he died of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis .

Career

Pries started playing handball at SV Rot-Weiß Kiebitzreihe . His next two stations were Elmshorner MTV and Ellerbeker TV. Subsequently, Pries joined the TV Grambke-Bremen , with which he rose to the Bundesliga in 1976 . Pries made his Bundesliga debut on September 18, 1976 against TuS Derschlag . After TV Grambke missed the qualification for the single-track Bundesliga in 1977, the Bremen team rose there with Pries in 1978 - aided by the waiver of the regional league champion MTV Herzhorn. After relegation in 1980, he moved to Reinickendorfer Füchsen . With these, Pries again succeeded in promotion to the Bundesliga in 1981 and there he played until relegation in 1986. He completed his last Bundesliga game on March 22, 1986 against VfL Gummersbach . Overall, he played 177 times in the Bundesliga and scored 538 goals. With 388 goals in 119 games, he was the record scorer with the Füchsen until May 2009. After Pries later returned to Schleswig-Holstein, he let his career end in Kiebitzzeile.

Roberto Pries played a total of five international A matches with the German national handball team in 1976 and 1979 and scored three goals. At the Ostseepokal in January 1980 he was a member of the B-team of the German Handball Association and played three of the four matches in the tournament, scoring seven goals (including one in a direct duel against the A-team of the DHB). He was also used in the preparation game of the B-team against the PR China on January 3, 1980.

Private

In 1977 Roberto Pries married his wife Heidi. His son Stefan also played handball and is the coach of the U23 team at SG Flensburg-Handewitt. His daughter Stefanie is married to the handball player Stefan Schröder .
