The Sparkassen-Cup , called Schlecker Cup up to 2011 and EVFH-Cup in 2012 , is an international handball tournament (invitation tournament) which is held in Ehingen on two match days with six participating men's teams from Europe. As a preparatory tournament for the coming season, the EVHF Cup will be held in the middle to the end of August. The tournament has been held since 1987. So far 54 of the best handball teams from 21 nations have taken part.

All games are played in the Ehinger Längenfeldhalle. By 2011, based in Ehingen, meanwhile, was insolvent companies Schlecker namesake and main sponsor of the event. In 2012, the tournament was after E hinger V erein for F romotion of H andballsports as EVFH Cup respectively. The EVFH is the host of the tournament, which is organized together with the handball department of TSG Ehingen. In February 2013, the organizers announced that the tournament will now be held under the name Sparkassen-Cup . Up to and including 2011, there was always an extensive supporting program around the tournament, in which various celebrities were involved. For example, in 2007 these were Axel Schulz , Michael Wendler , Eberhard Gienger , Carlo Thränhardt , Shaham Joyce and Simon-Paul Wagner . After Schlecker's bankruptcy , the focus of the event is now largely on the handball tournament itself.

Competition mode

The playing time of the six preliminary round matches is 2 × 30 minutes. The placement games also last over the normal handball playing time of 2 × 30 minutes. In the competition mode, two groups with three teams each are formed. In the preliminary round on Saturdays, everyone is played against everyone in a group according to the mode . Each team plays two games in the preliminary round. There are a total of six games in the preliminary round. In the event of a tie, the goal difference decides. If the goal difference is the same, the number of more goals scored decides.

Sundays are the placement games for 5th place, the bottom of the table, 3rd place (second in the table) and 1st place (the leader of the table). In the event of a tie after the end of normal playing time, there is an extension of five minutes twice. In the event of a tie after extra time has elapsed, there is a seven-meter throw with five shooters per team until the decision. A total of three games will take place on Sundays.

The cup presented to the winner, the Sparkassen-Cup (formerly Schlecker Cup ) is a challenge cup . He is currently owned by the team from KC Veszprém , which defeated the Füchse Berlin in the 2014 final with 29:34.

After the end of normal playing time, at 31:31 there would normally have been an extension of 2 × 5 minutes. Kielce's coach Bogdan Wenta saw his team at a disadvantage from the referees, so he waived the upcoming extension and thus the Füchse Berlin won 5th place.
