Montpellier Handball ( formerly Montpellier Agglomération Handball ) is a French handball club from Montpellier and with currently fourteen championship titles French record champions and with thirteen cup titles also record cup winners.
history
The association was founded in 1982 under the name Cosmos Montpellier . They carried this name until 1987. Between 1987 and 1989 they played under the name Montpellier La Paillade Sport Club . The association has only had its current name since 1989. The professional division played from 2007 to 2015 under the name Montpellier Agglomération Handball (MAHB) and since 2015 under the name Montpellier Handball (MHB). In 1992 Montpellier HB made it to the top French league , in which it is still represented today. Since then, the club has been French champions fourteen times.
In September 2012, the French judiciary opened an investigation against eight players from Montpellier on suspicion of fraud. The team is said to have lost a game in the French league on purpose in order to enable relatives of the players to win high betting winnings of up to 250,000 euros. As a result of the allegations, the players Luka and Nikola Karabatić (both from Pays d'Aix UC HB), Erlend Mamelund (Haslum HK) and Primož Prošt ( Frisch Auf Göppingen ) left the club during the current season.
