Career
In his youth, Issam Tej played in his hometown for Club olympique des transports and Stade Tunisien . At the age of 16 he was discovered and signed by the top club Espérance Sportive de Tunis . With Tunis he was a. a. 2003 Tunisian champion and cup winner. In the same year he was signed by the French first division club SC Sélestat Handball , to which his compatriot Heykel Megannem had changed a year earlier . After Tej had been voted the league's best runner in 2006, the top club Montpellier HB signed him. There he won the French League Cup in 2007. Furthermore, Tej won the French championship in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 and the French Cup in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012 and 2013. In the German-speaking world, Tej gained greater notoriety at the end of September 2007 because of a foul game. In the first group game of the EHF Champions League 2007/08 between Montpellier HB and the German champions THW Kiel , he is said to have deliberately fouled the Kiel star Nikola Karabatić , so that Karabatić is out for several weeks or months.
